Frank Krick has been in the canvas fabrication business for over 25 years. He grew up around marinas in Oak Harbor, Washington where he learned how to sail. At age 13, he crewed on the Tall-Ship S.S. Saluda, (renamed S.S. Odyssey, Tacoma WA) a restored U.S. Navy World War II acoustic research vessel.
Frank served in the Navy as a Special Operations Parachute Rigger at Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Training and Evaluation Unit Two, SEAL Team 8 and SDV Team 2. During his tour of duty at the SEAL Teams he started Blackhawk Industries Inc., making tactical assault gear used by the SPECOPS and law enforcement communities.
After selling Blackhawk, Frank worked for the U.S. Coast Guard, successfully initiating and implementing their Aircrew Survival Dry Suit program.
Frank then signed on with the TCOM Manufacturing Flight and Test Facility in Elizabeth City, N.C. as Quality Assurance Inspector for Aerostat and Airship Maintenance and Assembly.
Fountain Power Boats in Chocowinity, N.C. subsequently hired Frank to work in their Design and Development Department, fabricating canvas and upholstery products for their wide variety of award winning boats.
Frank worked independently in the Washington, N.C. area providing canvas fabrication and repair services to local boat owners and boat manufacturers. He also served part-time with the North Carolina Army National Guard.
Frank got married in
2012 and relocated to Raleigh, N.C. with his wife, Pamela. He started Craftmaster
Canvas to provide high quality custom canvas products and services for Boats,
RV’s, Motorcycle Seats, and Awnings as well as Repairs and Contract Sewing.
Frank and Pamela moved to Washington NC in 2015 and formed Downeast Marine Canvas LLC.
